I think we've been living in an ever escalating appearance-first life from pairings to mirrors to photographs to now every other person in the world being a 30 second celebrity on social media. I remember as a kid reading about the lives of actors and actresses and it being often weird. They'd be the one changing their appearances through surgery etc. The thing is now, nearly all of us are living their life, chasing some level of fame in different ways.
